How to remove the Powered by Odoo #1 Open Source eCommerce footer from front end of Odoo 8?

Odoo 8 comes with backlinks. These are shown to all search engines, and to anybody visiting the site.

As soon as a visitor logs in, the backlinks are hidden.

Where are they located? Lower right corner of every page (see image).

Why would you want to remove the backlinks completely, without exception, for all visitors, and all search engines? Quite simply because the backlinks to Odoo are an advertisement that detracts from your company's public image.

Got odoo 8 up and running behind an nginx SSL reverse proxy? Using the commonly recommended configuration of nginx for odoo? Is your nginx running only on the public HTTPS port, and the publc HTTP port is in use by another service, and cannot be taken by the nginx proxy ?

As you browse the public front-end web site, when you click:

  • "Forum"
  • "News"
  • "Contact Us", or
  • "Q&A".

404 error. Your company website, powered by Odoo, is broken.

Wait a minute. This is a standard nginx SSL reverse proxy configuration. How is this 404 error possible? What's really happened? Why? How best to fix? Can this be fixed in the Odoo code itself? Should it be?

Copy/paste the code (below) to the following 3 files, to be upgrade safe:

  1. SUGAR_BASE/custom/modules/Contacts/metadata/detailviewdefs.php
  2. SUGAR_BASE/custom/modules/Leads/metadata/detailviewdefs.php
  3. SUGAR_BASE/custom/modules/Prospects/metadata/detailviewdefs.php
Here is the custom code modification, shown added into the Contacts module custom detail view definitions:
        7 =>
        array (
          0 => 'description',
        ),
// added code starts here
        8 =>
        array (
           0 =>
           array (
             'label' => 'Personal LinkedIn Profile',
             'customCode' => '<a target="_blank" href="http://www.linkedin.com/search/fpsearch?type=people&keywords={$fields.full_name.value}">Search Full Name</a> <a target="_blank" href="http://www.linkedin.com/pub/dir/{$fields.first_name.value}/{$fields.last_name.value}">View public profiles for first and last name</a> <a target="_blank" href="http://www.linkedin.com/search?search=&company={$fields.account.value}&kwname={$fields.first_name.value}+{$fields.last_name.value}&title={$fields.title.value}">Search Account, First Name + Last Name, and Title</a>',
           ),
        ),
// end added code
      ),
      'LBL_PANEL_ADVANCED' =>
      array (

NOTE: To see the new feature, you must do a Quick Repair (Admin / Repair / Quick Repair).

This gives you 3 links:
1. search LinkedIn for the personal profile of the current contact/lead/prospect (using their full name).
2. show public profiles matching the first and last name
3. search for first name+last name and company (account) name

Note: Searching LinkedIn requires you to login once, because you need to be logged into LinkedIn to search for a profile.

After you login, you will not have to login again until your LinkedIn Session expires.
